Crafter Spotlight: Miss Eryn Marie

Miss Eryn Marie puts the cute into her ultra-snuggly monsters. Not to mention, she gives great advice on every crafter’s problem - collecting too many supplies. But don’t ya just want to hug these cuties? *Awwwww… git over here before my heart explodes.*
What kind of handmade items do you make for your business?
Super awesome knitted monsters!
What sorts of art, crafts or otherwise creative projects do you do in your spare time?
Aaaagh. What DON’T I do? I have an entire bedroom of my house dedicated to craft supplies. Painting, shrines, photography, scrapbooking, jewelry making…and everyone’s favorite craft: buying supplies for future crafts. Ha!
Share a tip or trick from your trade, that you wish you knew when you started.
Purchase with intention! I have so much stupid ugly yarn that is destined to end up as cat toys, or in some charity bin because I was naive and thought it was pretty. It’s either too chunky, too skinny, or just a very small quantity…or the worst, was back in what can best be referred to as the “80s era” of yarn…novelty yarns. Oh short yardages of terrible acrylic eyelash yarns. We look back upon thee fondly.
What makes your business unique?
I try really hard to make each monster unique and loveable, and to my obnoxiously high standards. I wish I could bring myself to pay someone to help me produce a higher volume….but I just can’t do it. Every monster is one of kind and I try to continually come up with fun new color combinations and themes.
What was your first crafty project (that you can remember)?
Painting with my grandma watching Bob Ross. Happy trees. I attribute all my creativity to my gramoo, I’ve been sewing and painting since I was so tiny.
What is your go-to crafty blog or website for inspiration?
I love to look at catalogs and magazines for color story inspiration. Urban Outfitters, Better Homes and Gardens, and Alternative Press are a few of my favorites. I am also a huuuuuuge nail polish addict so I get a lot of inspiration from current nail polish collections. And being a knitter, obviously Ravelry.com!

What decade or style inspires you?
Mexican folk art and Dia Los Muertos has always played a big role in my “non knitting” artwork, and the bright colors definitely spill over into my knitting. I also love vintage jewelry and clothing, and natural gemstones.
What is your favorite handmade object?
My scrapbooks. I love taking photos, and while a lot of people find scrapping kitschy and soccer mom-ish, I love to use it as another form of artwork, and really go outside of the box. You know your scrapbooks aren’t of the “mom jeans” persuasion when your guy friends are asking you to make them one!
If you see a table piled high with these bright lil monsters, you know you’ve reached Miss Eryn Marie.
